Batik silk painting is an ancient wax-resist art form brought to life on silk. Melted wax is applied with tjanting tools and brushes to "resist" the colour — then jewel-toned inks are painted directly onto the silk, flowing and blooming in beautiful, organic ways. Because you can't control every drop of wax or ink, each piece is a unique, luminous surprise.

If the workshop runs over a mealtime, bring a packed lunch or snacks. Everything else is provided.

Not at all — all abilities are welcome! Lisa will guide you through every step of the process. If you're feeling nervous about drawing freehand, there are disappearing fabric pens and design templates available so you always have support.

Please bring an apron or wear old clothes — wax and ink can occasionally splash. Darker colours are always safest!

All materials are provided — silk, wax, tjanting tools, brushes, inks, and a wooden frame to work on. Lisa also provides inspirational material and design templates if you'd like more guidance. Just bring yourself (and your apron)!
